The US Youth Soccer (USYS) National Championships are currently underway at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, with seven Tennessee teams in pursuit of a national championship. The seven Tennessee teams earned their spots in the USYS National Championships via results at the Southern Regional Championship or during the National League P.R.O. season.
“Tennessee is excited to be sending more teams to the USYS National Tournament than ever before,” said Hans Hobson, Chief Operating Officer of the Tennessee State Soccer Association. “We want to wish all of our teams success at Disney Wide World of Sports.”
Last month, teams battled for advancement to the 2022 USYS National Championships in the USYS Southern Regional Championships, which were hosted by the Tennessee State Soccer Association in Murfreesboro. Three Tennessee teams advanced as a result of that competition, while four more state teams had already punched their tickets to Orlando following success in National League P.R.O. The Germantown Legends 04 Black NL head to the USYS National Championships after winning the 18U Boys Division of National League P.R.O., which they followed up by claiming the USYS Southern Regional Championship.

The USYS National Championships are a culmination of a year-long series of competitions at the state and regional levels known as the USYS National Championship Series, which provides approximately 185,000 players on 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer’s 54 State Associations with the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation. Additionally, the USYS National Championships provide college and professional coaches with a platform to identify and scout players.
The players competing in Orlando look to continue a tradition of success by Tennessee teams that have previously seen a pair of national champions in 2016 and 2017. The Tennessee SC 18U Girls were the first team in state history to claim a national championship in 2016. The title capped off a multi-year run that saw the group win four of five consecutive Southern Regional Championships (only defeated once in the finals via penalty kicks during that time span), making them the most decorated team in state history. Tennessee SC crowned another national champion in 2017 when their 18U Girls were the last team standing in the country for their age group.
